Whilst I was over at the Beam Presents event a few weeks ago I got to talk to the company behind the new Coolerbooks e-reader device. This little device is very much Apple style and like all other e-reader’s gives people the opportunity to buy books and read them on the go. The benefit being that you don’t then have to carry around loads of really heavy books when you’re out and about.
Well today Coolerbooks have announced that they are going to launch an initiative in schools across the UK where they provide their ereader for free to a number of schools and provide them with books on the devices for students to borrow from the school library. Coolerbooks are attempting to make reading cool! And this looks like a really simple but pretty device that should be robust enough for a school environment. It will be interesting to see how many of the readers get lost or disappear and also how many students additionally go to the library just to get their hands on this cool little ereader. It certainly makes a lot more sense than carrying all those heavy text books around (so long as the books are available in the online store).
I look forward to seeing great things from this little company.
