  In the world of Girly Geekdom, this week is Girl Geek Gaming week. Why you might ask… well lets see. First of all we have the Mobile Games Night in London tomorrow evening. The event is all fully booked and I’ll be down there recording the action! I’m expecting lots of game playing, gadgets and geeky conversations. The evening is sponsored by Astraware and in conjunction with Fancy a Pint.

  As well as it being our mobile games event week it’s also the week that Halo 3 was released so I thought it was quite appropriate that there is another Vs PC advert out there, this time it’s all about the Xbox vs the PC. I personally love these simple adverts and they just scream enjoy me! I’ve not really played with an Xbox at all yet! In fact you could say I’m more the PC than the XBox in this video That doesn’t mean I’m stupid, just that I’m not really a gamer. (I say that but I loved Black & White on the PC an America McGee’s Alice… since then nothing much has really caught my fancy.)

  So I wonder… What would it be that would make me interested in getting an Xbox or gaming computer? What games get your blood running and get you addicted. Do all the girls really prefer the Wii and the Nintendo DS or are there some good Xbox games out there for the girls. If there aren’t that many then what are the girls looking for in games? What isn’t working…

  For me I would love to have a game that is challenging, creative, beautiful and yet exciting. That to me doesn’t really suggest shooting games, it also doesn’t automatically scream role play either. It’s a difficult one to explain… something that did catch my attention was Cloud and Flow
  but I have no idea about either and do wonder how they would really work… Anyway… enough about me and what I want. I want to hear what you want and what games really get you going and why!

  xbox all the way!! i'm not into shooting games either. i play all kinds of games on it though, including Rockband, Tiger Woods & Blue Dragon (<-really good RPG). I also play the Arcade games that weefz was talking about… hexic, uno, etc. Marble Blast is awesome!!!

  There really aren't enough girls on xbox… you guys should check it out!

  Had an xbox once and loved the first halo and also played lots of the surf and snowboard type games(though hated the skateboarding ones on xbox, edges, shudder).

  Lost custody of the xbox 3 years ago and am yet to replace it, hadnt lived anywhere long enough until recently and will probably go for the 360 soon, though i’ll pass on the pink skin.

  I’ve mostly played MMORPG on my PC the last years. At first I really loved Anarchy Online, but being a casual gamer, I got lost when the updates were piled up. So I tried World Of Warcraft, but I tired of the after a while. The games I’m looking forward to seeing now are “Age of Conan” and “Tabula Rasa”. I prefer sci-fi games, but so far it hasn’t been so many of them compared to more fantasy games.

  As for the Xbox, I sometimes enjoy watching my husband play games like Gears of War etc, pointing out “there’s a monster to your left” and checking up walkthroughs on the internet while he plays. There’s teamwork for you.

  My fave xbox games so far has been Guitar Hero II and Viva Pinata. You can’t go wrong when competing on a plastic guitar with colourfull buttons, and tending to my little garden in Viva Pinata is nice too. I used to play a lot of fighting games, like Soul Calibur and DoA IV, but my hands didn’t like it.

  PS3 may (or may not) be a better machine but the games for it are a bit rubbish at the moment. Warhawk looks fun but I object to having to buy it for every individual account. I do love Ninja Gaiden Sigma at the moment but NG2 is coming out on 360. DiRT is, frankly, boring.

  Xbox 360 has Live Arcade with all sorts of fun casual games to while away time. IMO it’s the one thing that makes it stand out above the PS3 until Sony sort themselves out. Cloning Clyde is an entertaining puzzle-platformer and there are loads of timeless puzzle games like Bejewelled, Hexic 1 + 2, Zuma…

  Other than Live Arcade, I love the Burnout series, Gears of War, Dead Rising and I’m really looking forward to Mass Effect. Viva Pinata is fun but the kiddie menu system gets tiresome. Virtua Tennis and RockStar’s Table Tennis are pretty good, too. Oh, and Lego Star Wars! EVERYONE should play that with a friend (but not the DS version).

  But back to the actual post topic – I want games with…

  a) Female characters! Who aren’t sized 40-22-40! Look at upcoming Team Fortress 2 – lovely line up of diverse characters… every single one of them male. And why are there never anonymous henchwomen? A bit of representation, please.

  b) A plot. Enough with the war sims already. Give me some characterisation and a reason to go from A to B. No, not a flimsy excuse, a reason I care about. Gears of War tried this but the plot points whizzed by so quickly that I just didn’t get it the first time through.

  c) Interesting gameplay. The addition of planes and good surface-to-air weaponry is fun in Warhawk. TF2 looks fun with the engineers and medic classes even though it’s, yes, an FPS. But still, there should be more to an entertainment form than killing.

  d) A space combat sim along the lines of Wing Commander. I loved that game and it’s been too long since a good space-sim came out. Dark Star One (PC) was okay but there were only 4 different missions that just happened over and over again.

  BTW Sarah, you should try Beyond Good and Evil on the PC if you see it anywhere. That’s quite fun and different.

  You should try Ico for the Playstation. It’s a few years old, but I think it might be your sort of thing!

  Flow is really good – it’s both a game and a piece of art, and a bit of a bargain at three quid. I don’t think it would work on the XBox though – it needs the motion sensing of the PS3 Sixxaxis controller.

  I don’t think it’s worth getting an XBox if you have a PC, since games on one appear on the other. Better to get a PS3… bit more pricey, but a better machine and a BlueRay player too, plus the games are less likely to be on the PC as well. Oh, and you have to pay Microsoft 60 quid a year just to play with the XBox online too, which is a bit of a rip off.
