Competition entrants could win iPad and/or cash prize of up to £10,000
BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, today announced the final two judges for its “Digital Revolutions” short film competition: Kevin Macdonald, Oscar winning director of One day in September and The Last King of Scotland, and David Bond, director of the award winning and critically acclaimed documentary, Erasing David.
Digital Revolutions [http://sheffdocfest.com/view/digitalrevolutions] is a film competition run in conjunction with Sheffield Doc/Fest, the biggest documentary film festival in the UK, and Crossover, an international digital media and content programme. For the competition, members of the public as well as film professionals can enter short films about how technology has changed their lives. The winners of the amateur category will receive a cash prize of up to £10,000.
Macdonald and Bond will join Elizabeth Sparrow, President, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, as well as Heather Croall, Director of Sheffield Doc/Fest and Frank Boyd, Director of Crossover, on the panel.
The Institute also confirmed today the dates and locations of four regional Crossover workshops that will be taking place to help potential entrants refine their material and get advice about promoting it. These will be;
31 August: London, Conway Hall.
1 September: Cardiff, Wales Millennium Centre.
2 September: Sheffield, Electric Works.
3 September: Edinburgh, Mercure Point Hotel.

Finally, the Institute is offering an iPad as an added incentive for individuals to submit material in the month of August before the 15 October deadline. From 4 August to 2 September, anyone who submits a valid entry to the competition will be entered in to a prize draw to win a brand new 16 GB iPad.
To enter the Digital Revolutions competition, films must be uploaded to YouTube and tagged ‘digitalrevolutions’, and accompanied by a completed application form which can be found on the Digital Revolutions home page (http://sheffdocfest.com/view/DigitalRevolutions)

Heather Croall, Director, Sheffield Doc/Fest said:
“We are delighted to be joined by such renowned and talented directors. I think their expertise will bring something extra to the judging panel – and entrants should be excited to have their work accessed by such monumental figures within the film making industry.”
The workshops will be run by Crossover and provide an opportunity for anyone entering the competition to get their questions answered by the experts first hand, as well as get advice and tips on every aspect of their entry – from communicating their idea to marketing their material.”
Frank Boyd, Director, Crossover said:
“The workshops will be a great opportunity for all entrants, whether they have already begun to make their film or just have an idea that they want help developing. My team of experts will be on hand all day and will be both presenting and working with small groups to make sure everyone gets the chance to have their questions answered.”
Entries are now open and will close on Friday 15 October 2010. The winners will be announced on 5 November 2010 at an event at Sheffield Doc/Fest. The winners will be invited to attend.
