It’s a Saturday afternoon and I was just sat here contemplating a few random bits and pieces. First of all I got an e-mail about Silicon Valley starting a Girl Geek Dinner (again…) and once again I’ll be forwarding them to Girls in Tech but it does make me wonder to some degree why people can’t find these groups… are they that invisible online and offline?

I then started thinking about the other thing that I’m planning on doing tomorrow and that is seeing my aunt, who runs her own business. How do the two things link. Well she has a lovely small business creating the most stunning hand painted silks. Every year I look forward to what wonderful creation she has made and carefully wrapped up for me. Every time I wear the items I cherish them. If she ended up with a huge set of orders it would change the creative process and the work that she does. In many ways it just wouldn’t be the same as it is now. Similarly I find that as the Girl Geek Dinners get more popular I still love the smaller ones best. They are the ones where I have the time to take with the people. I guess for my aunt it is very similar, she has more time to make the most beautiful items when she isn’t too crazy busy.

I’m looking forward to catching up with her this weekend over at the Bracknell Christmas Fair and I’m hoping that she’s having a great time!
