I was going through my technorati links to see what had been going on regarding the Girl Geek Dinner and found that Improbulus had blog tagged me for this blog meme! So in true blog style I am going to run through my media consumption diet. (Most used first… )

Word of Mouth
Very much one of my key ways of hearing about things… people tell me the important stuff. If it wasn’t important then they wouldn’t spend the time telling me about it. BTW I turn off to people talking about total nonsense or don’t get to the point. My time is important to me so I like to spend time talking about interesting, important and exciting things. (or funny stuff)

E-Mail
Fast direct, but too many! I spend a lot of time getting e-mails and trying to cut down on them… as a result I’m taking on the perspective of only checking my mails every couple of days. It’s a good habit to get into it stops information overload and allows me time to do other things. I will not be one of these people constantly attached to a Blackberry… eugh the thought of jumping to an e-mail… why… if it’s urgent then pick up a phone… if not then mail.

“If only e-mail were intelligent enough to know what I wanted it to do….” The person who does that has the killer app for me!

Blogs Great for me because I find them useful to just put down stuff on… I have personal ones, and girl geek ones, and ones on mobility stuff too… and best of all most of the interesting stuff that I read online is on blog sites. I don’t really go to the big websites like BBC unless someone tells me there’s a good story on there or something huge has just happened… Why? Because if it’s important someone will tell me about it. The best blog sites that I enjoy are ones where I learn thing. If only someone did a blog site that taught you over a series of weeks the information to pass the MCTS exams ;)

Radio I listen to the radio every morning for an hour, it’s my wake up call… The rest of the day, I don’t bother with it… The thing that frustrates me about the radio is the adverts… radio stations that only play music are great… the others… well they are just down right annoying. (at least for me) I also don’t like noisy radio dj’s with nothing sensible to talk about. Proper talk shows OK yes, they make sense especially when there is a debate on.

RSS Feeds
Used only when I actually have the time to go through them… to my inbox with my standard e-mails… Mainly to keep up with the general goings on in the blogosphere. I have about 50 blogs on the RSS list… I recently took off most of the people who post daily because I just don’t have the time to read all the posts… again… if only RSS was intelligent enough to know what interests me!

TV
Don’t watch it much, I find it most useful for playing DVD’s and films… I don’t use it for terrestrial television… the signal in our area even with digital is terrible so there’s not much point…

Phone
I have a mobile. I don’t use it a whole lot for its calling ability… Usually it’s used whilst I’m on the go for txt’s writing down notes and checking the odd e-mail. I have loads of fun games on it too thanks to the Astraware team! :) Games are good on my phone because they allow me to pass time on trains or waiting in queues etc they give me something to do when I f0rget to take my book with me.

Books
I love books, I love the feel of them, the way they are so portable, the fact that they have real pages! I find them tactile and full or fun and interesting stories. I sometimes can’t put them down when they are really, really good! (If you didn’t get it by now… I love books! If anyone ever wanted to buy me a really good present, a good book is one of the best things you can buy.) My only issue with books is that they use up space… to have LOTS of books means having LOTS of space! I need my very own library!

CD’s & DVD’s
CD’s…. i rarely buy CD’s… but I will buy a cd from an artist that I really like. DVD’s are the same… if the film is that good then I’ll want to watch it again and again!

Movies
At the cinema, on the odd occasion. Usually I watch the dvd’s though. I find that with the TV signal being terrible films are a better option and you cut out all the advertising noise and space between things… imagine all that time you save by not watching silly adverts…. (Oh dear Hugh will be upset with me!)

Magazines
Rarely buy them, find them very pointless… especially the so called female ones… I don’t see the point in buying pages of advertising and reading badly written articles when I could just buy a really good book for less than the price of a couple of magazines…

So I think that’s all the media stuffs that I consume… unless I’ve forgotten about something…

I’m going to pass this meme on to the following 5 people… more than that and it just gets a bit out of hand:
Adriana
Nicole Mathison
Dave Oliver (don’t forget your gaming!)
Barry Dorrans (because I know how much he loves this sort of thing)
Steve Clayton
