Are we happy with it yet?

Happy? with the Web I mean. Because it strikes me we are not. The latest research from bizreport speculates that individuals are experiencing increasing levels of ‘web stress’. FACEOFF! Following political sway through social media

In the wings looms heavily a general election. You hadn’t noticed? So far by the leaders of the political parties there has been limited (success) social media engagement. So Facebook or Twitter; Tory, LibDem or Labour: Which is it to be?

Loathed to extremes. One Facebook Profile.

Online, whose responsibility is it then to safeguard us?
It is unrealistic to propose a social network lock down. Web profiles can reveal (and also hide) so much. This would be a darkness falling on personal freedoms at the loss of the flow and expression of social information. Many of those incidental connections simply would not be possible without the freedom to create Profiles, send requests, respond and grow with our networks.

    Politwits. by Dr Mariann Hardey

Who/what will be 2010s key influencer’s? In the run up to the General Election maybe it will be the highs (and no doubt lows) of politics and politicians. This time we have political ‘news’ and ‘views’ via their Twitter feeds. Here’s the crunch. First are we really that interested in what they tweet?

    Ada Lovelace Inspirations & Pledge

If you remember, last year brought the very first Ada Lovelace Day, Founded by Suw Charman-Anderson where loads and loads of bloggers, male and female wrote about their geeky, science, technology and mathematical inspirations.  Well it’s coming back round again.

What do Skiing, Snowboarding & C Have in Common?

A short while ago I came across a fantastic little tweet courtesy of my lovely followers!  It was all about a new board game which I’m hoping to get my hands on to review and see how good it is.  In essence it’s a board game that teaches the fundamentals of object orientated programming through [...]

    Women & Technology 1999 – 2009

Since everyone has been doing their decade blog posts I thought it might be a good idea to look back through the last 10 years of women in technology and see how the industry has changed during this time.
Many of you already know that I tend to keep an eye on what’s in the news [...]

Winners of the Manga Competition! (Manga for Education Pledge!)

Last month we launched the Manga Competition for people to win one of two copies of the Manga Guide to Calculus courtesy of No Starch Press who are the publishers of the Manga Guide series.  Whilst this competition was going on @decisionstats came up with a fantastic suggestion!  That we should try to get companies [...]

Freedom to ride the web? It’s going to rust.

Our freedoms as they (seemingly) are on the web: fluid, multi-dimensional, creative, and even (at times) considerate and assertive, have, I must warn you, only a limited lifespan.
